The Anguish of Surrender
You offer us
The reward of endlessness
In exchange for the crude post and nails
Of noontime
Absolving en masse
The indignities and infractions
Of civilizations
Including those beyond the sunrise
Just by your maiden cry
Isn’t it too much
A sacrifice
For too trivial a cause
Is the homo sapiens
Really that plum
To deserve another life
But who am I
To question such design
Anyway I too am part of the rescue list
Though clearly I deserve not
Yet that too
Isn’t that mine to judge
