Calvary of the Poor
Lent is a finishing act
When Jesus sheds of mortality
When Judas willfully obeys the scribe
… takes the loyalty test
And executes the plan
Jesus passion is a biblical tragedy
A mandate the lamb must obey
Caiaphas’ lust for power must come to pass
Jesus must be betrayed, tortured
And crucified
Again the cycle of supreme sacrifice
Is set in motion
And the entire scriptural cast is reborn
The actors and actresses are Jews no more
But the peasants nailed to their hoes
The same souls go through purification
A process routine to the multitudes
Promised to inherit spiritual kingdoms
… the only beatitude that sustains
