The Theology of the Stable

Baptize me into your emptiness
Infuse me with the fascination of sacrifice
That I may accept poverty as a voluntary
Ministry
Toward the abandonment of myself

Invite me into your private Calvary
Let me join in your mission
Of total surrender
Where I share the bounty of self-denial
For the liberation of others

Only then will I find
Life’s purest value
… its deepest meaning

For unless I encounter my own
Gethsemane
Jesus, never will I ever know
My own destiny
Neither will I understand the entire theology
Of the manger.
